The integration of 2nd generation Vietnamese children in the Czech society

This thesis focuses on the issue of integration of the second generation of Vietnamese children in Czech society, particularly in primary education. In order to understand the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic it is necessary to become acquainted with the country of origin in the first place. In the theoretical part, the fundamental theoretical concepts related to the topic of Vietnamese history, culture and education are presented. The thesis outlines the differences between the Czech society and the Vietnamese language, traditions and holidays. Furthermore, the history of Czech- Vietnamese relations and knowledge of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic are mentioned. The main part of the thesis is devoted to education and it also includes the model of education in Vietnam, attitudes towards education in both countries and the typical problems of the integration of Vietnamese children in Czech primary schools. These common problems often stem from a variety of situations which could render the Vietnamese integration into the Czech society difficult. The bachelor work is focused on the topic of Vietnam children at the Czech education system. The first part of this work tries to mention cultural-historical background of the Vietnamese coming to the Czech Republic. It is concerning on the differences of the interethnical communication too. Second part of the work deals with the most important problems associated with the education of the Vietnam pupils and students and possibilities of their solution. This part also shows positives of the school as a factor of integration.
Construction of student identity of Vietnamese college students with parents with different educational attainment

This bachelor thesis discusses the topic of university students of Vietnamese origin in regard to their parents' educational level. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether there are some differences between students, whose parents have achieved university degree, and students, whose parents do not have university degree. The potential differences are examined in relation to their perceptions of themselves as students, their decisions about university studies, the values ascribed to higher education and the processes that shape their identity. The research is also taking to account the influence of cultural context associated with family's migration experience, straddling between two cultures and relationship between children and parents. Theoretical chapters describe theories of educational transmission and the effects of social origin on education attainment. They also present the issue of first- generation university students and characterize Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic. Empirical chapters describe qualitative research which used semi-structured interviews as the main method. The semi-structured interviews were conducted with six respondents. The main goal of this practical bachelor's thesis was to create a photographic documentary about young Czech Vietnamese people who identify as queer or as a part of the LGBTQ+ community. The final photo book is a portrait of one of the community members. Through a variety of traditional as well as alternative participatory documentary methods, this book examines identity and its formation. The theoretical part reflects on the use of these participatory elements, contextualising the author's own usage in the practical section. The thesis will also present some major representatives of the Czech and global photographic scene, such as Wendy Ewald or Pavel Dias, who have used participative methods in their work. The theoretical part of the thesis also defines documentary photography.

The work entitled "Integration of Vietnamese minority through the eyes of the Czech Public – the case study of Zlín Region" will deal with the integration of Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic with a regional focus on the Zlín Region. The Vietnamese minority is the third largest minority in the Czech Republic and it is important to monitor the view of the Czech population. The theoretical part follow up the discussion of existing literature on the perception of foreigners and it was also examined how Vietnamese are generally percieved by Czech public as a whole. The aim of the thesis is to map the perception of integration of the Vietnamese community by the inhabitants of the Zlín Region. The thesis asks which factors influence our attitudes towards foreigners and aims at socio-demographic factors and their influence on attitude towards Vietnamese: gender, age, education, social status, political orientation, size of place of residence and personal experience. The research itself takes form of a questionnaire (quantitative research), which was distributed to Czech citizens with permanent residence in the Zlín Region. The inhabitants of the Zlin region meet the Vietnamese rather occasionally and have a rather positive view of them thanks to the services they offer and their diligence. It is personal experience, the age and social status of the person that most influ-ences their stance.
Economic activities of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic

In my work I will focus on the economic activities of the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic. The first part of this thesis will be theoretical, in which I will analyze the conditions of long-term, permanent residence and citizenship gain for foreigners who want to legally reside in the Czech Republic. In the second part I will deal with the Vietnamese minority, which according to the Czech Statistical Office is the third most numerous minority living in the Czech Republic. Information on both parts of the work will be drawn from both internet and book sources. The aim of my bachelor thesis is to find out why the Vietnamese are choosing the Czech Republic, where the economic sectors are successful and how it affects the local market environment. At the same time I will outline the image of the criminal activity of this minority.

The first part of the thesis briefly describes the Vietnamese society after World War II and the main reasons for the Vietnamese immigration to Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. The second and third parts focus on the history of the Vietnamese coming to the Czech Republic and the social stratification of the Vietnamese minority. The fourth part of the thesis focuses on the hierarchy of the Vietnamese minority in the area of Prague.
